Saturn-Neptune-Square: „Should we let them in or close the doors?“ – The Winter of 2015/16

The winter of 2015/2016 will make us dance to the rhythms and tunes of two major constellations: On the one hand, there is the boom-boom of the good-old driving beat of the Uranus-Pluto square, which has been dominating our current affairs and our personal crises for already four years now with the demands of “Obey or rebel!”, “Adjust to the system or jump out!” and whose drum beat is going to dramatically play up one last time this winter. Whether in relationships, family or at work: people with important constellations in the middle degrees of Capricorn and Aries (as well as Libra and Cancer) will find themselves in a conflict between pressing duties and the urge for freedom or economic hardship and radical change.

On the other hand, there is the yearning melody of hope and redemption, which has now become a loud and roaring river and which is symbolized by Neptune in Pisces. Neptune as well as the sign of Pisces is related to oceans, rivers and floods and on the social level to people in need, fringe groups and those who have been neglected by main-stream society. It is not difficult to recognize the current political situation in Europe, where a flood of refugees have been fleeing from the drumfire of tyranny and terrorism to not only run into cultural barriers in foreign countries, but to also literally find themselves in front of newly erected fences and borders (Saturn in Sagittarius).

At the end of November, with the exact square between Saturn and Neptune, this conflict will come to a head for the first time and will dominate the headlines between May and October 2016. Especially people with constellations up until the middle of Sagittarius and Pisces as well as Virgo and Gemini will experience the dilemma of the Saturn-Neptune-square in their personal lives, manifesting in questions like, “Should I set clear boundaries or let it (or them) pass?”, “Should I bear up or take flight?”. Should this constellation affect the relationship sector in a chart, for example, the individual might see him- or herself confronted with unfulfilled dreams, illusions, addictions and dependencies within a partnership, clashing with sobering realities, probably due to cultural, religious and educational limitations, legal affairs and restricted mobility. Some bubbles might very well burst; however, this might be a necessary step to be able to give form to children of our imagination or to a dream or and make it come true – a possible, constructive expression of this connection between Saturn and Neptune. This conflict will also challenge a few of us whether we are ready to “walk out talk”, to test whether we are willing to live our ideals.

Even if this might sound like a crescendo of conflicts, both of these constellations will combine in an interesting and supportive way in 2016 to pave the ground for possible solutions. In the meantime, it is wise to remember that conflicting constellations, like these two squares, fulfill a valuable function: they create a lot of energy and they force us to take important decisions, which often fail to materialize under more harmonious planetary aspects.
